Davidson County was formed in 1822 from Rowan County. On 22 Nov 1822, Joseph Spurgeon introduced a bill into the State Senate to create Davidson County. Eighteen days later, on 10 Dec 1822, an article ran in Salisbury's Western Carolinian announcing the act.
