When Jonas Andersson was born on 20 July 1854, in Plintsberg, Leksand, Dalarna, Sweden, his father, Anders Jonsson Gjers, was 29 and his mother, Brita Persdotter, was 32. He married Kjerstin Larsson on 27 October 1887, in Logan, Cache, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 6 daughters. He lived in Leksand, Kopparberg, Sweden in 1878. He died on 19 May 1934, in Evanston, Uinta, Wyoming, United States, at the age of 79, and was buried in Lyman, Uinta, Wyoming, United States.
