When Ira Eldredge was born on 30 March 1810, in Middletown Springs, Rutland, Vermont, United States, his father, Alanson Eldredge, was 28 and his mother, Esther Sunderlin, was 24. He married Nancy Black on 4 July 1833, in Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, United States. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Warren Township, Marion, Indiana, United States in 1840 and Salt Lake, Utah, United States in 1850. He registered for military service in 1850. He died on 6 February 1866, in Hoytsville, Summit, Utah, United States, at the age of 55, and was buried in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States.
