When Stephen Bliss Moore was born on 29 February 1836, in Orange, Franklin, Massachusetts, United States, his father, Samuel P Moore, was 32 and his mother, Eunice Sibley Bliss, was 28. He married Elizabeth Elmina Baldwin on 1 April 1855. He lived in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, United States in 1839. He died on 9 April 1894, in Provo, Utah, Utah, United States, at the age of 58, and was buried in Provo City Cemetery, Provo, Utah, Utah, United States.

After the Saints had been chased out of Missouri they moved to a swampy area located next to the Mississippi River. Here they settled and named the place Nauvoo which translates into the city beautiful.
