When George Vaughn Thompson was born on 30 May 1798, in Elizabethtown, Elizabethtown, Essex, New York, United States, his father, Levi Ozro Thompson, was 33 and his mother, Diadama Vaughan, was 15. He married Lucia Spaulding on 1 January 1822, in Genesee, New York, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 9 November 1863, in Murray, Salt Lake, Utah, United States, at the age of 65, and was buried in Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.
