He married Margaret Lavina Wilson on 9 November 1837, in Shelby, Illinois, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 1 daughter. He died on 24 February 1893, in Franklin, Oneida, Idaho, United States, at the age of 77, and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, Franklin, Idaho, United States.
