When Lars Christian Kjar was born on 8 May 1816, in Hjørring, Nordjylland, Denmark, his father, Christen Pedersen Kiær, was 51 and his mother, Johanne Larsdatter, was 38. He married Mettie Maria Christensen on 1 December 1843, in Hals, Kær, Ålborg, Denmark. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 2 daughters. He immigrated to New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana, United States in 1855 and lived in Skæve, Dronninglund, Hjørring, Denmark in 1840 and Hals, Kær, Ålborg, Denmark for about 5 years. He registered for military service in 1866. He died on 15 February 1896, in Manti, Sanpete, Utah, United States, at the age of 79, and was buried in Manti, Sanpete, Utah, United States.
