See Frederick . The name was introduced to Sicily by the Normans, where it was borne by the son of the Norman Queen Constance and the German Emperor Henry VI . At the age of three, in 1197 , Federico became King of Sicily; he later went on to become King of the Germans and Holy Roman Emperor. He was a patron of the arts and sciences, and in 1224 founded the University of Naples.
