When William Harrison Maughan was born on 7 May 1834, in Alston, Cumberland, England, United Kingdom, his father, Peter Maughan, was 23 and his mother, Ruth Harrison, was 22. He married Barbara Williams Morgan on 25 December 1853, in Tooele, Tooele, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He immigrated to Utah, United States in 1850 and lived in Allendale, Northumberland, England, United Kingdom in 1881 and Hexhamshire Middle Quarter, Northumberland, England, United Kingdom in 1901. He registered for military service in 1850. He died on 29 August 1905, in Wellsville, Cache, Utah, United States, at the age of 71, and was buried in Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville, Cache, Utah, United States.

1836 · Remember the Alamo
Being a monumental event in the Texas Revolution, The Battle of the Alamo was a thirteen-day battle at the Alamo Mission near San Antonio. In the early morning of the final battle, the Mexican Army advanced on the Alamo. Quickly being overrun, the Texian Soldiers quickly withdrew inside the building. The battle has often been overshadowed by events from the Mexican–American War, But the Alamo gradually became known as a national battle site and later named an official Texas State Shrine.
