When Joseph Teasdale Egbert was born on 10 March 1818, in Carlisle, Haddon Township, Sullivan, Indiana, United States, his father, John Nicholas Egbert, was 38 and his mother, Susannah Hahn, was 31. He married Mary Caroline Allred on 6 December 1840, in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, United States. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 6 daughters. He lived in Farmington, Davis, Utah, United States in 1860 and Kaysville, Davis, Utah, United States for about 10 years. He died on 24 May 1898, in Ogden, Weber, Utah, United States, at the age of 80, and was buried in Kaysville City Cemetery, Kaysville, Davis, Utah, United States.

English (Devon): from the Middle English personal name Egbert (Old English Ecgbeorht, from ecg ‘sword’ + beorht ‘bright’). The present name in Britain usually appears to be of ancient Germanic origin (see 1 above), cognate with the English one, as the medieval name may not have survived.
