When Elijah Averett Sr. was born on 12 December 1810, in Maury, Tennessee, United States, his father, John Averett, was 30 and his mother, Jennette Hamilton Gill, was 24. He married Cherrizade Bernice Grimes on 9 February 1830, in Hamilton, Hancock, Illinois, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 3 daughters. He lived in Manti, Sanpete, Utah, United States in 1860. He registered for military service in 1832. He died on 2 September 1886, in Springerville, Apache, Arizona, United States, at the age of 75, and was buried in Eagar Cemetery, Eagar, Apache, Arizona, United States.
