When Maren Børglum was born on 2 March 1837, in Sankt Hans, Vennebjerg, Hjørring, Denmark, her father, Augustinus Børglum, was 32 and her mother, Ane Nielsdatter, was 31. She married Hans Christian Sørensen Hegsted on 10 December 1861, in Hjorring Sankt Catherainæ, Sankt Catharinæ, Sejlstrup, Denmark. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 4 daughters. She immigrated to Utah, United States in 1865 and lived in Harrisville, Weber, Utah, United States in 1880 and Fremont, Idaho, United States in 1900. She died on 29 March 1902, in Salem, Madison, Idaho, United States, at the age of 65, and was buried in Rexburg Cemetery, Madison, Idaho, United States.
