He married Agnes McIntyre on 27 August 1849, in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. They were the parents of at least 3 sons. He lived in Utah, United States in 1870. He died on 30 January 1874, in Bear Valley, Iron, Utah, United States, at the age of 47, and was buried in Panguitch City Cemetery, Panguitch, Garfield, Utah, United States.

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.
