When Niels Wilhelmsen was born on 21 April 1824, in Føvling, Tyrsting, Skanderborg, Denmark, his father, Wilhelm Christensen, was 61 and his mother, Else Nielsdatter, was 41. He married Ane Kirstine Nielsen on 5 May 1854, in Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 2 daughters. He lived in Rich, Utah, United States in 1870 and St. Charles, Bear Lake, Idaho, United States in 1879. He registered for military service in 1831. He died on 1 August 1881, in Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark, at the age of 57, and was buried in Saint Charles Cemetery, St. Charles, Bear Lake, Idaho, United States.
