When Barbara Thomas was born on 23 September 1793, in Llanfair Talhaiarn, Denbighshire, Wales, her father, John Thomas, was 19 and her mother, Catherine Vaughn, was 22. She married John Morris on 11 June 1814, in Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, Denbighshire, Wales, United Kingdom. They were the parents of at least 8 sons and 3 daughters. She died on 6 May 1866, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States, at the age of 72, and was buried in Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States.

1800 · Movement to Washington D.C.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.

The Th- spelling is organic, the initial letter of the name in the Greek New Testament being a theta. The English pronunciation as t rather than th- is the result of French influence from an early date. In France, this surname is most common in the Vosges and Brittany.
