When Emeline Leavitt was born on 26 July 1832, in Hatley Centre, Hatley, Memphrémagog, Quebec, Canada, her father, Weare Leavitt, was 47 and her mother, Phoebe Cowles, was 36. She married William Reed Smith on 3 March 1853, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 4 daughters. She immigrated to Utah, United States in 1847 and lived in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, United States in 1839. She died on 8 August 1888, in Centerville, Davis, Utah, United States, at the age of 56, and was buried in Centerville City Cemetery, Centerville, Davis, Utah, United States.

1836 · Remember the Alamo

Being a monumental event in the Texas Revolution, The Battle of the Alamo was a thirteen-day battle at the Alamo Mission near San Antonio. In the early morning of the final battle, the Mexican Army advanced on the Alamo. Quickly being overrun, the Texian Soldiers quickly withdrew inside the building. The battle has often been overshadowed by events from the Mexican–American War, But the Alamo gradually became known as a national battle site and later named an official Texas State Shrine.

1839 · Nauvoo is Settled

After the Saints had been chased out of Missouri they moved to a swampy area located next to the Mississippi River. Here they settled and named the place Nauvoo which translates into the city beautiful.

1848 · Chicago Board of Trade is organized

Starting as a voluntary association to help buyers and sellers meet to negotiate and make contracts. The Chicago Board of Trade is one of the oldest futures and options exchanges in the world and it is open 22 hours per day to stay competitive.
