He married Fokje Jans Dam on 14 May 1853, in Leeuwarden, Friesland, Netherlands. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Hooper, Weber, Utah, United States in 1880. He died on 29 November 1899, in Loa, Piute, Utah, United States, at the age of 72, and was buried in Loa, Piute, Utah, United States.
