He married Anna Barbara Hirschi on 4 July 1873, in Zwischenflüh, Diemtigen, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 3 daughters. He died on 3 December 1906, in Montpelier, Bear Lake, Idaho, United States, at the age of 57, and was buried in Geneva, Bear Lake, Idaho, United States.
