When David Henry Browning Sr was born on 16 March 1835, in La Prairie, Adams, Illinois, United States, his father, James Green Browning, was 26 and his mother, Mary Ann Neel, was 27. He married Elizabeth Jane Garner on 28 May 1854, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 8 daughters. He lived in Uintah, Weber, Utah, United States in 1880 and Lewisville, Fremont, Idaho, United States in 1900. He died on 31 December 1913, in Boise, Ada, Idaho, United States, at the age of 78, and was buried in Little Butte Cemetery, Annis, Jefferson, Idaho, United States.

1836 · Remember the Alamo

Being a monumental event in the Texas Revolution, The Battle of the Alamo was a thirteen-day battle at the Alamo Mission near San Antonio. In the early morning of the final battle, the Mexican Army advanced on the Alamo. Quickly being overrun, the Texian Soldiers quickly withdrew inside the building. The battle has often been overshadowed by events from the Mexican–American War, But the Alamo gradually became known as a national battle site and later named an official Texas State Shrine.

1839 · Nauvoo is Settled

After the Saints had been chased out of Missouri they moved to a swampy area located next to the Mississippi River. Here they settled and named the place Nauvoo which translates into the city beautiful.

Abraham Lincoln issues Emancipation Proclamation, declaring slaves in Confederate states to be free.

English (southern): from the Middle English personal name Brouning (Old English Brūning), a derivative of the byname Brūn (see Brown ).

History: This name was brought independently to North America from England by numerous different bearers from the 17th century onward. William Browning was one of the free planters who assented to the ‘Fundamental Agreement’ of the New Haven Colony on June 4, 1639.
