When William T Reid was born on 22 May 1805, in Ballylessan, County Down, Ireland, his father, Thomas Reid, was 39 and his mother, Rebecca Taylor, was 36. He married Jane Dyer in 1826. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Pottawattamie, Iowa, United States in 1850. He died in 1863, in Payson, Utah, Utah, United States, at the age of 58.

1821 · Financial Relief for Public Land

A United States law to provide financial relief for the purchasers of Public Lands. It permitted the earlier buyers, that couldn't pay completely for the land, to return the land back to the government. This granted them a credit towards the debt they had on land. Congress, also, extended credit to buyer for eight more years. Still while being in economic panic and the shortage of currency made by citizens, the government hoped that with the time extension, the economy would improve.

Name Meaning

Scottish: variant of Reed , of which Reid is the common modern Scots spelling.

History: Samuel Chester Reid (1783–1861), the sea captain who designed the stars and stripes form of the present the American flag, was born at Norwich, CT. His father, Lt. John Reid, a former British naval officer of a distinguished Glasgow family, had resigned his commission and joined the cause of the American Revolution.
