He married Ann Hagerty in 1841, in Chester, Pennsylvania, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 2 daughters. He lived in Nodaway, Andrew, Missouri, United States in 1850. He died on 1 November 1855, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States, at the age of 39, and was buried in Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States.

1819 · Panic! of 1819

1820 · Making States Equal

The Missouri Compromise helped provide the entrance of Maine as a free state and Missouri as a slave state into the United States. As part of the compromise, slavery was prohibited north of the 36°30′ parallel, excluding Missouri.

1830 · The Second Great Awakening

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.
