When Dennis Dorrity was born on 7 March 1819, in Franklin, Morgan, Illinois, United States, his father, Dennis Dougherty, was 37 and his mother, Sarah Amelia McLain, was 34. He married Diana Louisa Jolley on 13 December 1835, in Dresden, Weakley, Tennessee, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 4 daughters. He lived in Pottawattamie, Iowa, United States in 1850. He died on 4 March 1894, in Joseph, Sevier, Utah, United States, at the age of 74, and was buried in Kanosh Cemetery, Kanosh, Millard, Utah, United States.
