When William Wesley Willis was born on 16 August 1811, in Shawneetown, Gallatin, Illinois, United States, his father, Merrel Willis, was 30 and his mother, Margaret Susan Cherry, was 23. He married Margaret Jane Willis on 28 March 1833, in Hamilton, Illinois, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He immigrated to Utah, United States in 1847 and lived in Lee, Iowa, United States in 1840 and Salt Lake, Utah, United States in 1850. He registered for military service in 1846. He died on 8 April 1872, in Beaver, Beaver, Utah, United States, at the age of 60, and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Beaver, Beaver, Utah, United States.
