He married Rachel Maxfield Young on 9 March 1849, in Bountiful, Davis, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, United States in 1839. He registered for military service in 1851. He died on 26 July 1869, in Wanship, Summit, Utah, United States, at the age of 43, and was buried in Wanship, Summit, Utah, United States.

1830 · The Second Great Awakening

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.

1839 · Nauvoo is Settled

After the Saints had been chased out of Missouri they moved to a swampy area located next to the Mississippi River. Here they settled and named the place Nauvoo which translates into the city beautiful.
