Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.
English: habitational name from a place in Cumbria, first recorded in 1220 in its present form. There is a chapel of Saint Martin here, and the valley (see Dale ) may be named from this.
