When Niels Christian Mortensen was born on 23 November 1833, in Lynderup, Hald, Denmark, his father, Christen Mortensen Hougaard, was 41 and his mother, Mette Nielsen, was 33. He married Marie Dorthea Jensen on 20 February 1861, in Grenå, Kalø, Denmark. He lived in Lynderup, Rinds, Viborg, Denmark for about 11 years and Utah, United States in 1870. He died on 2 September 1905, in Brigham City, Box Elder, Utah, United States, at the age of 71, and was buried in Brigham City Cemetery, Brigham City, Box Elder, Utah, United States.

1836 · Remember the Alamo

Being a monumental event in the Texas Revolution, The Battle of the Alamo was a thirteen-day battle at the Alamo Mission near San Antonio. In the early morning of the final battle, the Mexican Army advanced on the Alamo. Quickly being overrun, the Texian Soldiers quickly withdrew inside the building. The battle has often been overshadowed by events from the Mexican–American War, But the Alamo gradually became known as a national battle site and later named an official Texas State Shrine.
