When Jean Daniel Malan was born on 20 November 1804, in Angrogna, Turin, Piedmont, Italy, his father, Jean Daniel Malan, was 19 and his mother, Catherine Costabel, was 22. He married Pauline Combe on 28 April 1825, in Angrogna, Turin, Piedmont, Italy. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 4 daughters. He immigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States in 1855. He died on 9 May 1886, in Ogden, Weber, Utah, United States, at the age of 81, and was buried in Ogden City Cemetery, Ogden, Weber, Utah, United States.
