When Martinus Barten was born on 11 October 1867, in Hees, Nijmegen, Gelderland, Netherlands, his father, Tijmen Barten, was 35 and his mother, Maria Sebilla Kool, was 30. He married Jantje Jansen about 1887, in Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherlands. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter. He immigrated to United States in 1897 and lived in Nijmegen, Gelderland, Netherlands in 1867 and West Weber, Weber, Utah, United States in 1900. He died on 21 March 1943, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States, at the age of 75, and was buried in Ogden City Cemetery, Ogden, Weber, Utah, United States.
