Brief Life History of Melba

Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT) | 8 July 1997 Melba Andrus Nelson DRAPER--Melba Andrus Nelson, 84, passed away July 6, 1997 at the home of her daughter in Draper. Born February 1, 1913 in Draper, Utah, to William Reynolds and Leah Alta Fitzgerald Andrus. Married Owen Roberts Nelson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 1, 1940. He preceded her in death March 26, 1994. Melba loved her family, home, music, cooking, gardening, canning, reading, reunions, traveling and writing family histories. She graduated from the University of Utah and taught school for many years in Sandy and Draper Elementaries. She served a mission to the Eastern States in 1939. She served in various ward and stake positions in Relief Society, Primary and Sunday School and as a visiting teacher throughout her life. She enjoyed serving as an ordained ordinance worker in the Jordan River LDS Temple with her husband. She was a member of the Draper Lions Club and American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Ebenezer Brown Camp. She leaves behind a legacy of children and grandchildren who are founded in the gospel of Jesus Christ and serving our Father in Heaven. Survivors: children, Leah Jane Jeppson (Bil), Draper; Robert Owen Nelson (Susan), Tigard, Oregon; Reed Andrus Nelson (Andrea), Kearns; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Julia Homer; brother, Merlen I. Andrus (Donna); sister-in-law, Ivy Smith (Ray); many nephews and nieces and cousins. Preceded in death by brother, Gerald. Funeral services Thursday, July 10, 1997, at 11 a.m. in the Draper 9th LDS Ward Chapel (Golden Pheasant Chapel at 13100 South 700 East) Friends may call at Goff Mortuary 8090 So.
