When James George Crane was born on 29 January 1866, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States, his father, James Crane, was 34 and his mother, Elizabeth Stewart, was 19. He married Sarah Jane Butterfield on 23 March 1888, in Logan, Cache, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 6 daughters. He died on 5 September 1917, in Montpelier, Bear Lake, Idaho, United States, at the age of 51, and was buried in Bennington Cemetery, Bennington, Bear Lake, Idaho, United States.

1867 · Sorry Mr. President, You can't do that.

This Act was to restrict the power of the President removing certain office holders without approval of the Senate. It denies the President the power to remove any executive officer who had been appointed by the president with the advice and consent of the Senate, unless the Senate approved the removal during the next full session of Congress. The Amendment was later repealed.

1868 · Impeach the President!

Caused by many crimes and breaking the Tenure of Office Act, Many Senators and House Representatives became angry with President Johnson and began discussions of his Impeachment. After a special session of Congress, the Articles of Impeachment were approved by the House and then the Senate. Making Andrew Johnson the first President to be Impeached.

1881 · The Assassination of James Garfield

Garfield was shot twice by Charles J. Guitea at Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1881. After eleven weeks of intensive and other care Garfield died in Elberon, New Jersey, the second of four presidents to be assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln.

Name Meaning

English: nickname, most likely for a tall, thin man with long legs, from Middle English cran ‘crane’ (the bird), Old English cran, cron. The term included the heron until the introduction of a separate word for the latter in the 14th century.
