Brief Life History of Emma Joan

Emma Joan Butters Barnes, age 91, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on August 27, 2017 surrounded by her family. Born March 4, 1926 in Park City, third child of Vernon H. and Pauline Fausett Butters. Married James P. Barnes; he passed away in August 1992 in Salt Lake City. She spent most of her childhood in Primary Children's Hospital with TB of the spine. She graduated from West High School in 1944. She served in the Primary and Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a member of The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She raised a beautiful garden and was a wonderful homemaker, but her greatest joy was being with her family. Survived by her children, Steven (Cinthia) Barnes and Roger Vernon (Cathy) Barnes; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Butters, Wallsburg; and sister, Sharon Evans, Murray. Preceded in death by her brother, Bobbie James Butters; and sister, Donna Newcomb. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Road (1700 West). A viewing will be held prior to the services from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road (1700 West). The Salt Lake Tribune Deseret News August 29, 2017
