Preston was incorporated as a village on July 25, 1900. Trustees Joseph Johnson, H.S. Geddes, D.J. Hammon, John Larsen, and Benjamin Curtis unanimously named John Larsen as Chairman of the Board. They elected Hyrum Jensen as Marshall, William M. Daines as Treasurer, Charles D. Goaslind as Justice of the Peace, and A.W. Hart as Village Attorney. The first ordinances passed provided “the punishment of offenses and malicious mischief,” prohibited gambling, the “impounding and disposing of trespassing animals,” and a speed limit of eight miles per hour.
The Daughters of Utah Pioneers was organized by Annie Taylor Hyde after she invited a group of fifty-four women to her home to find ways to recognize names and achievements of the men, women and children who were the pioneers.
