When Heiko Boekweg was born on 14 September 1884, in Siddeburen, Groningen, Netherlands, his father, Uuldrik Geerts Boekweg, was 28 and his mother, Pieterke van der West, was 25. He married Stella Gerritje Gerdina Johanna Draayer on 8 November 1905, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 8 daughters. He died on 31 May 1972, in Ogden, Weber, Utah, United States, at the age of 87, and was buried in Washington Heights Memorial Park, South Ogden, Weber, Utah, United States.

Weber comes from John Henry Weber, an early fur trader. The university opened for students on January 7, 1889. By the late 1920's, the college was in financial difficulty and the Utah Legislature passed a law allowing the purchase of both Weber College and Snow College from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1954 the college moved from downtown Ogden the southeast bench area of the city where it resides currently.
