She lived in Park City, Summit, Utah, United States in 1900 and Twin Falls, Twin Falls, Idaho, United States in 1920. She died on 7 August 1928, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States, at the age of 48, and was buried in Heber City Cemetery, Heber City, Wasatch, Utah, United States.

Garfield was shot twice by Charles J. Guitea at Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1881. After eleven weeks of intensive and other care Garfield died in Elberon, New Jersey, the second of four presidents to be assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln.
