When Thomas Walter Brookbank-Civil War Vet. was born on February 23, 1847, in Morgan, Utah, his father, John, was 42 and his mother, Hannah, was 34. He married Edith Porter and they had one son together. He then married Susan Morilla Bates and they had six children together. He died on October 2, 1939, in Tucson, Arizona, at the age of 92, and was buried in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Abraham Lincoln issues Emancipation Proclamation, declaring slaves in Confederate states to be free.

1864 · St. Albans Raid

St. Albans Raid took place on October 19, 1864. It was a Confederate raid from Canada into Union territory. Confederate soldiers that were in Canada raided the town of St. Albans killed one person and robbed three banks.

1872 · The First National Park

Yellowstone National Park was given the title of the first national park by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant. It is also believed to be the first national park in the world.

English (Yorkshire): topographic name from Middle English brok(e) ‘stream, brook’ + bank(e) ‘ridge, slope, bank’, for someone who lived by the bank of a brook. The name may be habitational as well, and early forms suggests that the source may be a lost place in the vicinity of Warley (Yorkshire). It may also have been confused with Brocklebank .
