1976 · The Copyright Act of 1976

The primary form of copyright law in the United States. The Act spells out what is the basic rights of the copyright holder and what is classified as fair use.

1978 · Launch of BBC Radio Scotland.

BBC Radio Scotland was founded as a full-time radio network on 23 November while previously, it was only possible to opt in and out of the radio channel at the time. The establishment of a separate network was made possible when Radio Scotland began to transmit on a longer wave frequency so it didn’t have to share with Radio 4. However it was not until the early 1990s that Radio 4 was available on FM across all of Scotland. For its first decade on air, Radio Scotland only broadcast during the day so that Radio 4 could be broadcast in the evening to compensate for poorer AM reception after dark.

1979 · The Department of Education
