Name Meaning

Spanish: habitational name from any of several places, in the provinces of Badajoz, Uesca, and Zamora, named in Latin as Beneventum. The Latin place name seems to mean ‘welcome’ (from bene ‘well’ + ventum, past participle of venire ‘to come’), but this may be no more than a folk etymological distortion of an earlier name.
