Mary Alice Manning was born in 1825, in Bennington, Vermont, United States as the daughter of Mary Alice Robinson. She married Col. Henry Raymond Selden on 10 August 1852. They were the parents of at least 1 son. She died on 15 January 1854, in her hometown, at the age of 29.

    1825 · The Crimes Act

    Age 0

    The Crimes Act was made to provide a clearer punishment of certain crimes against the United States. Part of it includes: Changing the maximum sentence of imprisonment to be increased from seven to ten years and changing the maximum fine from $5,000 to $10,000.

    1830 · The Second Great Awakening

    Age 5

    Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.

    1834 · Vermont Anti-Slavery Society is Formed

    The Anti-Slavery Society of Vermont was established in 1834. 100 people from different towns were at the first meeting, with the intent to abolish slavery. 

    Name Meaning

    Irish (Cork and Kerry): adopted as an English equivalent of Gaelic Ó Mainnín ‘descendant of Mainnín’, probably an assimilated form of Mainchín, a diminutive of manach ‘monk’. This is the name of a chieftain family in Connacht. It is sometimes pronounced Ó Maingín and Anglicized as Mangan .
