Name Meaning

English: (i) relationship name from an unrecorded Middle English male personal name * Aldhise, * Oldhise, representing Old English * Ealdhyse, from eald ‘old’ + hyse ‘young man, warrior’, a type of compound attested in Domesday Book by Old English Brūnhyse, Godhyse, and Lēofhyse. (ii) in E England alternatively, it may be a variant of Aldous , though the absence of early bearers from E Anglia until the 19th century suggests that the more probable source there is (i) above, through late migration.
