When Johannes Reber was born on 30 January 1811, his father, Christian Reber, was 28 and his mother, Elisabeth Baumann, was 21. He married Madlena Kupferschmied on 1 December 1837, in Muri bei Bern, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 6 daughters. He died on 23 November 1872, at the age of 61.
