Alexander Hatty was born in 1797, in County Antrim, Ireland as the son of Mark Hatty and Mrs Isabella Hatty. He married Jane McKendry about 1826, in County Antrim, Ireland. They were the parents of at least 8 sons. He died on 22 June 1867, at the age of 70, and was buried in Melbourne General Cemetery, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
