Brief Life History of Frederick

About the year 1810, Frederick and two of his brothers, Elisha and James, Left CT, and with all their worldly possessions in a bundle strung on the end of a stick, walked to Susquehanna Ct, Pennsylvania and bought 65 acres of land where they cleared the heavy timber He joined the Army of the Potomac in the civil war. He was severely wounded on the field in the battle of Chancellorsville, and left for dead. He was captured by the rebels and then exchanged and sent home. He friends had mourned his being deceased. When recovered he joined the Invalid Corps and placed on scouting duties with headquarters in Washington, DC. He was on picket duty at one of the forts beyond the East River Bridge the night President Lincoln was assassinated and for the next 14 days and nights he was in the saddle most of the time hunting in and around Washington for the assassins. He was honorably discharged in June 1865 and returned home to buy 1/2 interest in Elk Lake Grist-Mills and made large quantities of buckwheat flour. He also served in various township offices.He died at age 73 after a long illness.

1825 · The Crimes Act

The Crimes Act was made to provide a clearer punishment of certain crimes against the United States. Part of it includes: Changing the maximum sentence of imprisonment to be increased from seven to ten years and changing the maximum fine from $5,000 to $10,000.
