He married Lucinda Brown on 22 December 1875, in Durham, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 26 February 1900, in Bruce, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 47, and was buried in Kincardine, Bruce, Ontario, Canada.

1883 · Mining Boom

In 1883, there was a mining boom in Northern Ontario when mineral deposits were found near Sudbury. Thomas Flanagan was the blacksmith for the Canadian Pacific Railway that noticed the deposits in the river.

Name Meaning

Irish: shortened form of MacHood, an altered form of Irish Ó hUid ‘descendant of Ud’, in which Ó ‘descendant’ has been replaced by Mac ‘son’. Compare Hood 5. The name was taken by 19th-century Irish migrants to south-west Scotland and north-west England.
