When Henry Bassler was born on 11 December 1797, in Jackson Township, Lebanon, Pennsylvania, United States, his father, Simon Basler, was 35 and his mother, Catharina Houtz, was 24. He married Anna Barbara Unger on 8 May 1821. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 7 daughters. He died on 16 January 1851, in Myerstown, Lebanon, Pennsylvania, United States, at the age of 53, and was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Jackson Township, Lebanon, Pennsylvania, United States.

1800 · Movement to Washington D.C.

While the growth of the new nation was exponential, the United States didn’t have permanent location to house the Government. The First capital was temporary in New York City but by the second term of George Washington the Capital moved to Philadelphia for the following 10 years. Ultimately during the Presidency of John Adams, the Capital found a permanent home in the District of Columbia.
