When Anders Nilsen Buttedal was born on 27 September 1744, in Lier Hospital, Lier, Buskerud, Norway, his father, Nils Sebjornsen Buttedal, was 43 and his mother, Anne Haagensdatter, was 41. He married Elen Christine Halvorsdatter on 5 October 1772. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 20 July 1809, at the age of 64.
