1870 · The Fifteenth Amendment

Prohibits the federal government and each state from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen's race, color, or previous condition of servitude. It was the last of the Reconstruction Amendments.

1878 · Yellow Fever Epidemic

When a man that had escaped a quarantined steamboat with yellow fever went to a restaurant he infected Kate Bionda the owner. This was the start of the yellow fever epidemic in Memphis, Tennessee. By the end of the epidemic 5,200 of the residence would die.

1893 · The Minnesota State Flag

The Flag of Minnesota was adopted on August 2 and consists of scenes from the seal of Minnesota. The flag has been modified over the years to be easier to manufacture.
