On 1 Apr 1810, Rockcastle County was formed from Knox, Lincoln, Madison and Pulaski Counties. The county was named for the Rockcastle River, the boundary between Rockcastle and Laurel County.

1818 · Jackson Purchase

The western part of Kentucky purchased by Andrew Jackson from the Chickasaw Indians in 1818. It became known as the Jackson Purchase. This included land that wasn't originally part of Kentucky when it became a state.
