He married Charlotte Davidson on 12 August 1912, in Rotorua, New Zealand. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 3 daughters. He registered for military service in 1917. He died on 9 May 1961, in Thames, Thames-Coromandel, New Zealand, at the age of 73, and was buried in Totara Memorial Park, Thames, Thames-Coromandel, New Zealand.
