Name Meaning

Hispanic (mainly Peru; Reátegui): shortened form of Basque Larreátegui, itself a Castilianized form of Larreategi, probably a topographic name ending in -tegi ‘house, workshop of’.

History: The progenitor of the Reáteguis in Peru was Pedro de Larreátegui y Gaviria, founder of the city of Lamas in 1656. Among his immediate descendants the surname was spelled de la Reátegui.
