1861 · The Civil War Starts

Age 10

When the Civil War broke out Kentucky had said they would be neutral. As the war raged on though, Kentucky supplied around 86,000 troops to the North and half of that to the South. Fort Jefferson in western Kentucky was the first fort occupied by the Union forces
1862 · Battle of Perryville

Age 11

On October 8, 1862, the Battle of Perryville took place between the Army of Ohio and the Army of Mississippi. It was the bloodiest battle on Kentucky soil. The Union lost around four thousand people and the Confederates lost around three thousand people. This was about one fifth of those that fought.
